Balea Station :High-Performance Smart Weighing Station for Logistics
In a warehouse, every poorly checked order is an error that costs money. The Balea Station is a smart weighing solution, engineered to fit into your logistics flow and guarantee accuracy at every step.
Smart Weighing Station: How It Works
A conventional picking station forces the operator to stop, key in data, and run manual checks. The Balea Station flips that logic: it learns, it guides, and it checks in real time, without interrupting the flow.
The result : the operator picks, the station validates. Every item, every quantity, every order, error-free and friction-free, from replenishment to shipping.
Overview: The Different Types of Weighing Stations
There are three main families:
- Road weighing stations (axle-by-axle weighing of heavy goods vehicles, used in transport logistics),
- Industrial stations (dosing, filling, in-line production checking),
- Logistics weighing stations, the Balea Station's home turf. These are built for warehouses and distribution centers: order picking verification, intelligent count-by-picking, and inbound/outbound validation.
Balea Station: A Smart Weighing Station Built for Logistics Performance
A fixed weighing station, augmented (single-lane, or multi-pick with up to 4 simultaneous lanes).
- Inbound : it checks the weight of put-away flows through count-by-picking.
- Outbound : it validates order picking line by line and records the total gross weight for shipping. Open-ecosystem by design: compatible with AMR, AS/RS, goods-to-man/goods-to-person (GTM/GTP), conveyors, WMS, and WCS.
Why Use a Smart Weighing Station in Logistics?
Continuous flow
Checking happens with zero downtime, the operator places the item, the station validates.
Measurable time savings
Automatic multi-order validation significantly reduces picking time.
Zero-error picking
Instant detection of any anomaly (wrong reference, incorrect quantity) before the order moves downstream.
Augmented Weighing Station Use Cases in the Warehouse
The Balea Station covers a wide range of use cases. Here are the three most common, and most distinctive, configurations.

Scenario 1 :
Station at the exit of a goods-to-person system
Principe : the GTM/GTP system brings the item to the operator at the picking station. Synchronized with the GTP system, the Balea Station shows which lane to place items in, and in what quantity.
Real-time control : the station detects whether the right item was placed and whether the quantity is correct, thanks to self-learning counting and machine-learning weight intelligence.
Simplified validation : with Solea software, a single validation confirms several simultaneous orders, drastically cutting operator movements and cycle time.
Instant alert : the station flags any anomaly in reference or quantity before the order is validated downstream.

Scenario 2 :
Station paired with an AMR robot
Principe : the Balea Station drives the AMR, telling it which item and quantity to bring to fulfill the order. The operator is guided at every step.
Third-party control : Solea software takes over execution and drives the AMR under its control. The station becomes the central control point.
GTP optimisation : with the HyperTour feature, the station optimizes mission sequencing and reduces the number of AMRs required, maximizing overall system performance.

Scenario 3 :
Station at the entry of an AS/RS system (inbound)
Principe : before put-away into the AS/RS, the Balea Station verifies deposited quantities through count-by-picking.
Benefit : no error enters the automated system. Discrepancies are caught and corrected at the source, with no costly downstream intervention.
Full traceability : every inbound movement is logged with a time stamp, reference, and quantity, data sent to the WMS in real time.
Pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, e-commerce, manufacturing, 3PL :
in every sector where throughput runs high and quality standards are non-negotiable, the Balea Station integrates into conveyor flows to weigh parcels in transit, record gross weight for shipping, and ensure weight compliance at the end of the line.

FM Logistic
10 Balea Stations for a Global Cosmetics Group
Thousands of references. Absolute quality standards.
To meet this challenge, the FM Logistic teams deployed 10 Balea Stations at the exit of their goods-to-person system, right at the order picking stage. Every pick is guided and checked in real time. The Balea Station tells the operator how many items to pick and place, and confirms the right item and the right quantity at each move.
Behind that precision : our machine-learning weight intelligence, which dynamically captures weight, continuously strengthens data reliability, and detects anomalies before they become errors. With no manual data entry whatsoever.
The result : stronger picking reliability, even across complex cosmetics assortments where weight differences between references can be minute.
Three Software Tiers : Connect, Smart, Solea
The Balea Station runs on three software tiers, depending on the features and use cases you need (Solea being our Warehouse Execution System, WES) :

How Does Smart Weighing Work in a Logistics Environment?
In logistics, a smart weighing station relies on load cells (strain gauges or piezoelectric sensors) that continuously measure load variations as items are placed or picked.
Every weighing automatically generates a record sent to the WMS: reference, quantity, weight, time stamp.
The station slots into the logistics flow without breaking it, and the check becomes invisible to the operator.

What is a smart weighing station?
A smart weighing station is a weight-control device that communicates with logistics information systems (WMS, WCS, ERP) and adapts its behavior to the data it receives: expected reference, quantity to pick, tolerance thresholds. It goes beyond simple mass measurement to become an active checkpoint in the order picking flow.
What level of accuracy can a smart weighing station achieve ?
In a standard logistics environment, the Balea Station distinguishes mass differences of just a few grams. Exact specifications are defined during the needs assessment, based on the items handled and the site’s constraints.
In which logistics scenarios should you use an augmented weighing station ?
Anywhere errors carry a cost: pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, food and beverage, electronics. Also in high-throughput warehouses (e-commerce, 3PL), as a complement to goods-to-person, AS/RS, or AMR setups, and in any environment that requires strict regulatory traceability.
How do you choose a smart weighing station for your warehouse ?
The choice comes down to five parameters : the accuracy your items require (mass range, tolerance), the site’s physical constraints (temperature, humidity, throughput), the number of simultaneous lanes and operators, compatibility with your WMS, and sector-specific regulatory requirements. Modular and configurable, the Balea Station adapts to these constraints while protecting your investment over time.
