Industrial Logistics :
automate and optimise your manufacturing warehouse performance

Need expert advice ?

Our logistics experts are here to help and will get back to you promptly.

Industrial logistics leaves no room for error: a wrong pick is not a dispute, it is a production line at a standstill. Balea secures your production supply flows and order picking through on-board weighing and real-time flow control via smart picking trolleys and carts. Zero errors, sustained throughput, total traceability.

What is industrial logistics ?

Industrial logistics encompasses all physical and information flows that feed into and extend beyond production: component receiving, stock management, internal flows, manufacturing order preparation and dispatch. It differs from distribution logistics in one fundamental way: here, order picking does not simply serve an end customer it feeds the production line. Operators assemble mounting kits, supply workstations and build bills of materials from technical references that are often numerous and closely similar.

This manufacturing supply chain is measured against four requirements: throughput (keeping pace with production), accuracy (a missing or wrong component stops the line), traceability (batches, serial numbers, compliance) and productivity. Performance in an industrial warehouse hinges on all four fronts, as a critical link in the broader intralogistics chain.

What are the challenges of industrial warehouse operations ?

Mastering industrial warehouse operations raises specific challenges. Industrial flow control faces four recurring obstacles :

Feeding the line without shortages
or errors

In manufacturing, the picker does not serve a remote customer: they feed a running production line. A supply shortage or an incomplete kit slows the entire chain. Order picking must match the production cadence without ever compromising the accuracy of the components delivered to the workstation.

Distinguishing numerous, closely similar technical references

Fasteners, connectors, components, mechanical parts: an industrial warehouse handles thousands of references that often look identical. The risk of confusion at the pick face is constant.

Counting and picking
small parts

How do you guarantee that a bin of fasteners contains exactly 100 washers? Manual small-part counting is slow, tedious and unreliable. It is one of the most costly blind spots in industrial order picking.

Tracking batches and integrating with existing systems

Batch tracking, serial number traceability, auditability, compliance: traceability is non-negotiable. And any solution must fit into the existing IT ecosystem (WMS, ERP, MES) without a full overhaul.

How Balea secures order picking in industrial environments

At the heart of Balea solutions: on-board weighing (also known as embedded weighing)

At every pick, the system compares the measured weight against the expected weight and does two things: it verifies the operation in real time (right reference, right quantity) and it counts parts by weight (fasteners, washers, components)  with no manual counting. The pick becomes its own quality check. This technology is not a stand-alone device: it is built into both the Balea Shopeur and the Balea Pickeur.

Order picking and production supply : Balea Shopeur

Balea Shopeur covers both realities of industrial order picking:

In both cases, visual operator guidance directs the picker while on-board weighing verifies every pick  handling up to 48 orders or kits simultaneously in a single run. The motorised smart picking trolley covers long distances, and its compact format fits narrow aisles.

Full case picking and kitting :
Balea Pickeur

For full case picking flows (boxes, heavy loads, pallets), Balea Pickeur applies the same on-board weighing to standard material handling equipment:

The same principle applies to kitting bulky or heavy components: building a mounting kit at carton or pallet scale, with every pick verified by weight. Full case picking becomes as reliable as unit-level picking.

Flow management and traceability :
the Solea software

Solea is the WES (Warehouse Execution System) that drives order picking and provides real-time industrial warehouse flow management (picking, kitting, orders):

Industrial use cases

Depending on the sector, industrial order picking takes different forms — and Balea solutions adapt accordingly :

TRYBA (Atrya group)

Multi-client order picking case (joinery manufacturing) :

Driven by a dual focus on productivity and quality, Atrya turned to Balea’s order picking expertise.

The Solea suite, combined with the Shopeur, proved the obvious choice.

The manual Shopeur picking cart enables operators to pick three orders for three different clients simultaneously in a single run. “The Shopeur was adopted very quickly by all users and is now an established part of our workspace,” says Christophe Baur.

What is industrial logistics ?

It encompasses all physical and information flows that feed into and extend beyond production : sourcing, stock management, internal flows, manufacturing order preparation and dispatch. It differs from distribution logistics in that order picking primarily feeds the production line.

By combining visual operator guidance with embedded weighing that verifies every pick in real time. Quantity or reference errors are caught at the source, before they reach the production line.

By weighing: accurate to 0.1g (depending on the model), on-board weighing secures fastener, connector and component counting without any manual counting.

The Balea Shopeur smart picking trolley for kitting and multi-order unit-level picking, the Balea Pickeur picking cart for carton-level flows, all driven by the Solea software suite.

By deploying connected equipment driven by an execution system that optimises picking rounds, sequences operations and supervises flows in real time, while integrating with your existing WMS and ERP.

With the Solea software suite, which supervises operations, delivers operational dashboards and provides actionable data to manage performance and track batches.

Yes. Solea integrates natively with MES, WMS and ERP systems on the market, without requiring a full IT overhaul.
